Using Data to Reduce Eviction in Brooklyn
The SumAll Foundation provides big data services to non profit partners. I was on the founding team of a project aimed at improving outreach to New Yorkers at risk of eviction and homelessness. In collaboration with Brooklyn based nonprofit CAMBA, we launched a letter, email and advertising campaign.
Letters were personalized and featured clear information, Spanish language translation and multiple options for getting in touch.
I created this map using eviction filing data to determine which blocks in our sample area had the highest risk for eviction. The full version is interactive and updated monthly. The map proved extremely helpful for door-to-door outreach workers who could now better target their efforts. The first iteration of this program improved outreach efforts over 30%.
